Poison in Their Hearts review
The book opens with Daphne at the Frivian court where we left her, now solidly against her mother and making plans with Violie, Leopold, Cliona, and Bairre. Beatriz, on the other hand, is in a bit more of a bind. Having been captured at the end of Stardust in Their Veins, she now finds herself back in the Cellarian court to be wed...
Hearts That Cut release!
It’s been five weeks since Io left Alante to follow the golden thread, and she’s no closer to finding the god on the other end. She spends her days in constant, grueling travel and her nights worrying over the fate-thread she shares with Edei—which seems to be fraying. Making matters worse, she and Bianca soon … Continue reading Hearts That Cut release!
The City in Glass review
This is an interesting book. It reminds me a little bit of City of Stardust or one of Neil Gaiman's books. The story is about Vitrine, sure, but I think it's more about the city of Azril and the way that it changes and the way that it's loved.
Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng
I wasn't totally sure what to expect coming into this book, but it is 100% a horror book. Not fantasy horror, horror...and I actually really liked it! While it is straightforward horror, I was invested in the story and the ghosts, and trying to figure out how the ghosts fit in
A Sorceress Comes to Call review
As usual, Kingfisher does not disappoint. Her books tend to fall into two categories: fairytale-esque or fantasy horror, and this one is one of the fairytale-esque ones. Like Nettle & Bone though, it does have some creepy elements.
Dragonfruit review
This book has an interesting premise: dragons in fantasy Polynesia. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and the magic system of the book and found myself interested in the plot. However, this does feel like a younger YA or MG book rather than a typical YA.
The Last Bloodcarver review
The author describes this book as 'science fantasy,' which I think is an apt descriptor. Nhika's powers are within the realm of fantasy, but the way she thinks about her powers is more science, as are the automatons that help run the city.
The Dangerous Ones release!
1863, Pennsylvania War doesn’t scare Jerusalem—she’s a Saint. Thanks to powerful demigod-style reflexes, endurance, and strength, she’s fearless. And ever since the Confederates declared civil war, partnering with the vampires who benefitted off slavery, she and her battalion of Saints are essential to the Union army. Jerusalem herself had been enslaved by a vampire, escaping … Continue reading The Dangerous Ones release!
The Familiar review
I was kind of on the fence about reading this but I'm glad I did, this book was so good! Bardugo weaves a rich tale of magic and luxury and longing, and all of the characters (as usual) are complex and well rounded.
