And the Sky Bled review
This book just didn't do it for me. It had elements there that I liked and that should've made this a higher rated read, but it just wasn't working for me. That being said, there's not really a lot wrong with the book, it just ended up not being for me.
Hearts That Cut release!
It’s been five weeks since Io left Alante to follow the golden thread, and she’s no closer to finding the god on the other end. She spends her days in constant, grueling travel and her nights worrying over the fate-thread she shares with Edei—which seems to be fraying. Making matters worse, she and Bianca soon … Continue reading Hearts That Cut release!
The City in Glass review
This is an interesting book. It reminds me a little bit of City of Stardust or one of Neil Gaiman's books. The story is about Vitrine, sure, but I think it's more about the city of Azril and the way that it changes and the way that it's loved.
Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng
I wasn't totally sure what to expect coming into this book, but it is 100% a horror book. Not fantasy horror, horror...and I actually really liked it! While it is straightforward horror, I was invested in the story and the ghosts, and trying to figure out how the ghosts fit in
We Are the Beasts review
This book is about the harm that befalls women at the hands of their so-called protectors, but it's also about women standing up for each other and it's about community. Joséphine and Clara immediately spring to the aid of a battered six-year-old girl, and the number of people they protect only grows from there.
The God and the Gumiho release!
Kim Hani, also known as the Scarlet Fox, has retired from a life of devouring souls. She is, simply put, too full. Now she spends her days laying low in a coffee shop and annoying a particularly irritating trickster god. That god is Seokga the Fallen. He was thrown out of his heavenly kingdom centuries … Continue reading The God and the Gumiho release!
A Sorceress Comes to Call review
As usual, Kingfisher does not disappoint. Her books tend to fall into two categories: fairytale-esque or fantasy horror, and this one is one of the fairytale-esque ones. Like Nettle & Bone though, it does have some creepy elements.
Women in the Valley of Kings review
This book offers an interesting overview of the women who shaped Egyptology and helped ensure its continuation as a discipline. All but one of the women was British, and the one who wasn't was American, so Sheppard does note that even when women stepped into the field it remained very Euro-centric.
The Dangerous Ones release!
1863, Pennsylvania War doesn’t scare Jerusalem—she’s a Saint. Thanks to powerful demigod-style reflexes, endurance, and strength, she’s fearless. And ever since the Confederates declared civil war, partnering with the vampires who benefitted off slavery, she and her battalion of Saints are essential to the Union army. Jerusalem herself had been enslaved by a vampire, escaping … Continue reading The Dangerous Ones release!
